AUSSIE JOURNALISTS CALL FOR “IMPROVED COVERAGE” OF ISRAEL – HAMAS WAR
November 29, 2023Prominent journalists and media figures across Australia have signed an open letter, urging greater scrutiny in the reporting of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
A bold and important stance that I have rarely witnessed during my nearly two decades as a journalist in Australia.
I’m so proud that there are still ethical and dedicated journalists in Australia upholding their fundamental responsibilities.
What truly impressed me was their call for *”media transparency about journalists who have been on all-expenses-paid trips to Israel organised by pro-Israeli government groups…We also urge all Australian journalists from hereon to reject offers of paid trips to the Middle East.”*
I personally witnessed these “trips” and the shift in the perspective of our editors-in-chief, foreign editors and other journalists, after returning from these junkets.
Call it brainwashing, call it what you will, but I saw how the narrative changed against the Palestinians and I was truly disappointed by it.
