Today, people around the world marked their solidarity with the Palestinian people. It is a day to affirm our support for the full rights and national aspiration of Palestinians. For UNWRA, it is a day to underscore that the plight of Palestine refugees remains the longest unresolved refugee crisis in the world. Today, across the region, Palestinian refugees face immense challenges.
00:00:29:00 – 00:01:07:24
Most striking is the appalling human tragedy we are witnessing in Gaza, reminiscent of the collective trauma experienced by Palestinians in 1948. But there is also the alarming rise in violence in the West Bank. The simmering tensions in Lebanon, the protracted conflict in Syria, and the economic fragility in Jordan. Today, as for the past 75 years, UNRWA works to safeguard the rights of Palestine refugees to education, primary health care and social protection, including in time of emergency.

In Gaza, we are determined not only to stay but to scale up our operation to meet the enormous needs of the community. 1.7 million people are displaced into half the Gaza Strip, with over 1 million seeking refuge in overcrowded and shockingly unsanitary shelters. In the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, we will continue to do whatever we can to protect our critical services delivery for as long as it is needed, providing vital stability to the region. This is a time to stand firmly with UNRWA, which remains a beacon of hope amid despair and destruction.
