CHALLENGING THE LEGITIMACY OF ISRAEL’S EXISTENCE
January 19, 2024“if the state of Israel was the necessary response to the Holocaust, then why was the Balfour Declaration signed like 25 years before that?”
Elianne El-Amyouni, an Influencer & writer, is making us think hard about the whole story of Israel and reveals historical facts about institutions and structures created some as far back as the 1500s.
This unexpected question makes us look at history in a new way. From the Balfour Declaration in 1917 to scores of Jewish people moving from Europe in 1850, and the start of the Jewish Colonial Trust in 1902, it’s a longer story than just the Holocaust.

English Script:
Elianne El-Amyouni: Okay. But if the state of Israel was the necessary response to the Holocaust, then why was the Balfour Declaration signed like 25 years before that? in 1917. Right? Because if the state of Israel is about responding to the Holocaust, then why did massive migrations of European Jews start happening in like 1850? It’s weird, right? Because if the state of Israel is about responding to the Holocaust, then why is the Jewish colonial Trust founded in 1902? Why has it changed its name to Bank Leumi and become the biggest bank in Israel? It’s crazy, right? Because if the state of Israel is about responding to the Holocaust and returning people to their indigenous homelands, then why is there such a thing as the Jewish Colonization Association, founded on September 11th in 1891? Why is it still active in Israel under the name Jewish Charitable Association? It’s just I can’t wrap my head around it because if the state of Israel is about responding to the Holocaust, then why does Zionism have its roots in the 1580s in Christian Calvinist circles? Back then, they called themselves restorationists. Just something to think about. Love you, question everything.
