IRELAND PLEDGES $21 MILLION TO UNRWA AS EU COMES UNDER SCATHING ATTACK
February 16, 2024View this post on Instagram
“IRELAND defies Israel and the US by announcing €20 million in support for the UN Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA), which provides healthcare and other services for those in need.
Irish Foreign Minister, Micheal Martin urged all countries that have suspended funding to resume and increase support to the agency due to the foundless accusations and claims made by Israel against UNRWA
Meanwhille, in the EU Parliament, Spanish parliamentary member, N. Sanchoz Amor, made a brilliant point about the important for all European nations to resume aid for UNRWA when he compared the unverified accusations by Israel that 0.04% of UNRWA employees were Hamas members, stating: “Let me remind you: 0.28% of this EU parliament is under investigation for Qatargate. That’s SEVEN TIMES 7x more than the % of UNRWA staff under investigation.
“So should we close the European Parliament?”

Englsh Script:
Micheál Martin: The will of the international community is clear. UNRWA has a vital life saving mandate that must be fulfilled. One country cannot and must not be allowed to undermine that. I was deeply concerned that a number of UNWRA’s key donors suspended their funding based on allegations against a very small number of staff that have yet to be proven. Our partners in the European Union and elsewhere, including the United States, must urgently rescind this decision and resume funding.
Ireland’s support remains steadfast, and I am happy today to announce funding of €20 million for UNWRA for its operations in 2024.
Nacho Sánchez Amor: That’s 0.04% of UNRWA staff, 0.04%. And the consequence is that we shut down UNRWA funding because 0.04% has been found guilty, for the moment provisionally, of a crime. Colleagues, I would like to remind you that 0.28% of this Parliament is under investigation by Qatargate, 0.28%, seven times more than the percentage of UNRWA people involved. Are we going to shut down Parliament? Are we going to shut down Parliament because a tiny minority of colleagues have acted wrongly? That is the question we have to ask ourselves.
