GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION FOR GAZA UNITES THE WORLD
February 19, 2024“Millions and Millions of people around the world took to the streets, marching at pro-Palestine rallies that have been the primary reason in the shift in global opinion towards Palestine and rights of the Palestinians after nearly 100 years of apartheid, oppression and a colonialist policy that was aimed to strip them of not only their homeland but also their identity.
On the Global Day of Action this weekend, activists flooded the streets of over 100 cities across 45 countries, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The urgency of their calls echoed amid escalating humanitarian crises, particularly as Israel’s military escalation looms in Rafah.
In response to a call from London, millions mobilized for a second International Day of Solidarity with Gaza, condemning Israel’s actions as tantamount to genocide and ethnic cleansing. From Istanbul to Washington, Sydney to Paris, demonstrators called for accountability, freedom for Palestine, and an end to Israeli aggression.
Similar scenes unfolded in Amsterdam, Stockholm, Aarhus, Seoul, and other cities worldwide, with protesters united in their demand for justice and peace. Calls to boycott Israel reverberated through Madrid’s streets, underscoring the global momentum behind the Palestinian cause.
Even in Tel Aviv, protests swelled, with calls for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s resignation and early elections echoing through the city streets. Despite mounting pressure, Netanyahu remains defiant, clinging to power amidst corruption charges and plummeting popularity.
