WE ARE WITNESSING DECLINE OF U.S. EMPIRE
March 4, 2024Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro defined the times we are going through now and the split we are seeing amongst those supporting Palestine versus those with Israel as the decline of the U.S. empire.
Citing the case of a U.S. Air Force soldier, Aaron Bushnell, who last week set himself alight outside the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C. in a dramatic protest against what he described as America’s complicity in the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people, Maduro highlighted Bushnell’s defiance as a symbol of growing discontent within U.S. society and the world at large.
Despite attempts at censorship, Bushnell’s message resonated globally, sparking protests and raising questions about the moral integrity of U.S. military actions and political intransigence.
Maduro drew parallels between the soldier’s act of dissent and the ongoing conflict in Palestine, characterizing it as a live broadcast of genocide that has elicited widespread condemnation and prompted a reassessment of global consciousness. He likened this event to Venezuela’s own historical moment, the 11 April 2002 coup d’état, suggesting that it signifies a pivotal shift in international dynamics.
This isn’t merely a decline of power; it’s a moral awakening. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Nicolás Maduro: this soldier, this young man, a soldier of the US Air Force, has shaken US society and the world. They censored him on the networks but it didn’t work, it reached the whole world. And then there have been protests in US cities where military people have gone and burned uniforms. What I said weeks ago is happening, a reaction is taking place by the consciousness and morality of the world in the face of the genocide broadcast live on social media. The first genocide broadcast live on social media. If in Venezuela, we say that april 11, 2002 was the first coup d’etat broadcast live on television, this is the first genocide, the first war of extermination in the 21st century against a people, the Palestinian people, broadcast live, that will generate a change in the world consciousness, completely. I believe that we’re seeing the exhaustion, the definitive decline of the US empire and of the Western imperial system of domination. We are living through a historic moment, a before and after. There is a total moral decline and a questioning of the imperialist, hegemonistic ideology.
