COLOMBIA CALLS ON ALL NATIONS TO SEVER TIES IF ISRAEL DEFIES UNSC RESOLUTION
March 27, 2024Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, warned this week that Colombia would break diplomatic relations with Israel if it did not comply with the UN Security Council resoluiton which demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
President Petro also issued a global invitation to all “nations of the world to sever diplomatic relations if Israel breaks the ceasefire,”
The strong stance was met with an expected rebuke by the Israeli side with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, calling President Petro´s “support” of Hamas a “disgrace to the Colombian people”.
The illogical comparison by Katz was another attempt by Israel to conflate unrelated issues to try and distract the global public from the real issue. Nothing in President Petro’s statement in any way indicated support for Hamas. Rather it demonstrated Petro’s strict respect for international law and the conventions that are in place to protect against rogue states such as Israel abandoning the legal framework and implementing their own rules which defied international standards.
The Colombian president has been amongst the strongest world leaders against Israel genocidal war against the civilians of Gaza.
