The Lancet Study Reveals True Death Toll in Gaza – Take Action for Palestine: Email Your Elected Officials

The second study on Gaza’s death toll published in the respected British medical journal, The Lancet, affirms the severe under-reporting of Palestinian deaths in Gaza.
The peer-reviewed research focuses on the first nine months of Israel’s genoc/de, estimating deaths from traumatic injuries to range between 55,298 and 78,525, with the most likely figure being 64,260. This represents a 41% under-reporting compared to Ministry of Health (MoH) figures.
Using the most recent death toll, the 41% under-reporting rate projects the number of traumatic injury-related deaths to approximately 77,976 – with the potential figure being as high as 95,378 deaths.
These figures do not account for the thousands of missing individuals believed to be buried under rubble or deaths caused by indirect factors such as lack of healthcare, food, water, and sanitation.
In July 2024, another study published in the Lancet did combine direct and indirect deaths, projecting that even if Israel’s genoc/dal assau/t and blockade ended at that time, approximately 186,000 Palestinians would die as a result in the following months. This was their conservative estimate too.
To make a conservative estimate, four times the number of direct deaths was used to project total long-term fatalities. With this methodology, if a lasting ceasef/re was implemented today, with 77,976 direct deaths already, long-term deaths would reach 311,904.
All of these estimations demonstrate the devastating scale of death and loss of Palestinian life in Gaza at the hands of Israel. This IS a genoc/de!
