Hamas Confirms Israeli Documents Accusing Murdered Journalist Were ‘Fabricated’
Jeremy Scahill told Breaking Points that Hamas told him the group conducted an internal audit—reviewing brigade records and interviewing members—which found Hossam Shabat was not a sniper, not in Qassam, and not affiliated with Hamas at all.
Hossam, our Palestinian journalist colleague at Drop Site, was assassinated by Israeli forces in March. Hamas also told Scahill that the documents Israel released to justify his killing were entirely “fabricated.”
Scahill notes that Hamas typically claims its fighters publicly when they are killed—but in this case, they made clear: Shabat was not one of them.
