Shame!’: Israeli President Praises NSW Premier Chris Minns for Backing Israel | Australian Jewish News

Israeli President gives glowing praise to NSW Premier.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued a glowing letter of praise for NSW Premier Chris Minns, commending him for his “”leadership”” and “”support”” of the Jewish community amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
The letter, personally delivered by Israeli Ambassador Amir Maimon during a Sydney event, comes at a time when Israel stands accused of committing war crimes—including mass civilian killings, the destruction of hospitals, and a humanitarian blockade. For many, this public endorsement signals more than just diplomatic courtesy—it reflects a concerning political alignment at the expense of Palestinian lives.
Minns said he is “proud to count myself a friend of the Jewish people of NSW and a friend of the State of Israel”.
Minns has already drawn criticism for his controversial decision to light the Sydney Opera House in blue and white following the events of October 7, ignoring the thousands of Palestinians killed in Israel’s retaliatory bombardments.
His continued silence on the documented atrocities in Gaza—contrasted with his vocal stance against antisemitism—has led to accusations of double standards and moral inconsistency. With Herzog’s letter omitting any mention of Palestinian suffering, and Minns receiving praise while remaining mute on Israel’s escalating violence, the move feels less like a gesture of peace and more like an implicit endorsement of Israel’s actions.
