BBC: Kenyan Authorities Kill Protesters Demanding Justice
July 3, 2025
THEY SHOT MY SON IN THE HEAD — FOR WANTING A BETTER KENYA.” 19-year-old David Mwangi was murdered in cold blood by Kenyan police last week. His crime? Demanding justice. Fighting for his future.
Instead of protecting the people, the Kenyan authorities are killing protestors —
Young voices silenced for standing up to corruption, inequality, and state brutality.
Now, his mother is speaking out — through her pain, through her grief —
so the world doesn’t turn away.
This is not law enforcement. This is oppression. This is execution.
Say his name.
David Mwangi.

English Script:
Rachael Nyambura: Whoever did this to my son, how would you feel if they were in my shoes or if it was their child? That’s a question I’m asking myself. When I found my brother crying, I knew right away that my son had died. He told me, “My sister, they have killed our child”. I became very weak and couldn’t view my son’s body at that time.
Kipchumba Murkomen: This has nothing to do with protests. This has nothing to do with freedom of expression. It was an unconstitutional attempt to change the regime of this republic. And this is therefore…yesterday what the police did to foil was they were able to foil an attempted coup.
Rachael Nyambura: If they can hear our cry, they should leave our children alone.
