🌍 30+ Nations Gather to Put Israel on Trial for Genocide — Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti Reports from Colombia
July 17, 2025
Emergency Conference of States held on July 15 in Bogotá
Led by voices who’ve had enough of silence, complicity, and blood-soaked diplomacy.
They’re calling for: – Arrest warrants – Arms embargoes – Legal action under international law
Because statements don’t save lives — accountability does.
The world is watching. And this time, it’s not looking away.

Al Jazeera reporter: The Hague Group is a block of countries from the global South, with Colombia and South Africa as co-host. But there are also other countries, such as Malaysia and Cuba, that have come together since January to try and push for concrete actions to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza. They have agreed already on a number of actions, among them promising to enforce, for example, the arrest warrant of the president of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and of the defense minister of Israel trying to stop arms sales to Israel and banning, for example, the docking of Israeli ships or other ships that might be carrying material that Israel could be using.
Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio: Colombia has said it without ambiguity. What’s happening in Gaza is a genocide. International Human Rights should be paramount and acted upon, not empty rhetoric. This conference held with South Africa demonstrates that the Global South does not accept human rights being held hostage to geopolitics.
Al Jazeera reporter: Among the high profile people that will be here, there’s also Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, who said she’s hoping this could be a turning point on many countries pushing for concrete actions, even if nobody here expect the violence to end overnight.
