DW News Anchor: We begin the show with some breaking news just coming in. French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will formally recognize Palestine as a state. In a statement on X, Macron said: “In keeping with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine. I will make a formal announcement to this effect at the United Nations General Assembly in September.” France will be the biggest and most powerful European country to recognize Palestine. More than 140 countries already recognize a Palestinian state, including more than a dozen in Europe.
