Held on October 18th at the Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville, Trivia With a Cause brought together over 200 people for a night of culture, learning, and community in support of Palestine.
Since its launch in 2013, this annual fundraiser has become a much-anticipated event on Sydney’s cultural and political calendar. Hosted by @friendsofhebronsydney (FHS) and co-sponsored by @palestinefairtrade and @addiroad, this event invites attendees to gather, feast, learn, and give.
Last year I attended with family and friends and we shared in a night filled by freshly made falafel, riz w djej (chicken and rice), tayyeb tabouli, and generous servings of creamy, crispy kanafeh — all served alongside trivia rounds, a Palestinian artisan market, a community auction, authentic musical performances, a short-film screening and powerful educational moments about the realities in Palestine.
Since 2010, FHS has supported grassroots projects in the West Bank — including two key initiatives again spotlighted this year:
1. Dkaika Education Access Project – Offering education and safe daily transport for students in a remote village. In 2023, it faced shutdown due to permit cancellations and settler violence.
Thanks to the $10,000 USD raised last year, Dkaika’s school stayed open, buses kept running — and students remained in class.
2. The Dream Centre for Children with Autism – Provides specialised care to one of Palestine’s most marginalised communities. In 2023, 120 students and 16 educators relied on it. FHS funding helped keep it open through 2025 despite severe permit and funding cuts.
Trivia With a Cause returns to Addi road for its 11th year on the 24th October, continuing its mission amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza. Expect another vibrant night of Palestinian culture and education with special guests including the beloved @jerusalem.falafel crew serving up their famous mezze.
