That’s how Avi Shlaim describes what’s happening in Gaza.
Read that again.
Avi Shlaim —
Israeli-British historian.
Jewish.
Emeritus professor at Oxford.
A scholar of Zionism and Middle East history.
Not an activist on the street.
An academic voice.
He argues that under Benjamin Netanyahu,
Israel’s war in Gaza amounts to genocide.
That word changes everything.
For decades, criticism of Israeli policy came mostly from outside.
Now some of the strongest accusations

English Script:
Avi Shlaim: Under Netanyahu’s leadership, Israel has also committed the crime of war crimes, genocide. Genocide is not just a legal concept, but a fundamentally moral issue. It is the denial of the right to exist of a whole group of people. Israel’s national identity is inextricably linked with the Holocaust. But Israel is no longer the victim if it has ever been. Whereas in the Second World War, the Jews were the defenseless victims of Nazi Germany. Today it’s the Palestinians who are the defenseless victims of the Jewish state.
