20 French Boats Set Sail to Break Gaza Blockade in New Aid Flotilla
April 8, 2026
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, the silence was broken in Marseille. 20 French vessels part of the Global Sumud Flotilla’s Spring Mission defied the status quo and set sail from L’Estaque Port. Their destination? The besieged shores of Gaza. Their mission? To shatter a blockade that has turned a home into an open-air prison.
These boats aren’t just carrying medical supplies and seeds; they are carrying the rage of a global community that refuses to watch a population be starved in high definition. This French fleet is joining an international armada of over 100 ships from 20 different countries.
Despite the Israeli Navy violently intercepting 40 boats and detaining 450 activists just last October, these crews are sailing anyway. They are headed to Italy for non-violence training, proving that while governments may be complicit, the people are courageous.
You cannot blockade the human spirit. Support them and share their updates.

Unknown Activist: The largestGlobal Sumud Flotilla mission is setting sail once again to the Gaza Strip in an attempt to break Israel’s blockade and provide urgent humanitarian relief to Palestinians in Gaza. This week, around 20 French boats set sail from the port of Marseilles on Saturday to join a new international flotilla headed for Gaza.
Activists: Gaza, Gaza Marseille is with you.
Unknown Activist: The Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 mission will be picking up tens of other boats as it makes its way to Gaza Shores, potentially forming the largest civilian led mission in history to challenge Israel’s blockade. So we’re here in Barcelona to follow the launch of dozens more vessels, with around 1000 participants from all across the world with all sorts of professional backgrounds. The ships are expected to set sail from the port of Barcelona on the 12th of April and arrive at Gaza’s seas between a week to two weeks later. If Israel doesn’t intercept and seize the boats, according to the organizers, this flotilla is intended aim is not only to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, but also to deliver critical care and specialized professionals who may have otherwise been blocked entry into Gaza by Israel. In addition to challenge Israel’s over 18 year suffocating blockade on Gaza and its 2 million population, most people will remember the previous Global Sumud Flotilla mission that took place back in September to October last year. After months of complete Israeli blockade on any food or aid entering Gaza, and in reaction to famine being officially declared for the first time in Gaza in August 2025. That flotilla mission was made up of over 40 vessels and was seized just over 40 nautical miles from the coast of Gaza. Activists and participants, along with Al Jazeera staff, were all arrested by Israel and sent back to their home countries. Around a month later, Israel agreed to a cease fire and limited aid and food resumed entry into Gaza. Yet since that ceasefire came into place in October 2025, Israel has continued to bomb several sites across Gaza, killing hundreds of people and continuing its systematic destruction of the strip. So why now? For this flotilla? Amidst the US Israeli war on Iran and Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, the continued suffering in Gaza has slipped from news coverage, and the risks remain high for individuals taking part in the flotilla. Interception is likely, and there’s also a lot of military presence in the Mediterranean. Yet organizers and participants feel that citizens initiatives, like flotillas, are the only solution left to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza.
