1936–1972: Ghassan Kanafani — Palestinian Author Murdered by Israel for Writing Palestine’s Truth
September 8, 2025
Ghassan Kanafani was one of the Arab world’s most powerful voices. A novelist, journalist, and revolutionary, he turned the pain of exile and the memory of the Nakba into literature that refused to let Palestine be forgotten. His stories — Men in the Sun, Return to Haifa spoke of displacement, resistance, and the unbroken right of return.
For this, Israel assassinated him.
In 1972, Mossad planted a car bomb in Beirut that killed Kanafani and his 17-year-old niece, Lamees. He was only 36 years old.
They murdered him because his pen exposed what their guns could not erase. They feared his words more than his weapons, because he showed the world that Palestine is not a tragedy, it is a people fighting for dignity and liberation.
Kanafani was a commando who never fired a gun. His weapon was truth. And for that, Israel killed him. But his words live on, sharper and louder than ever.
