THE WHITE HOUSE TRIED TO SILENCE THREE OUTLETS. THE ENTIRE PRESS CORPS WALKED OUT INSTEAD.
Trump banned CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, calling their coverage “FICTION and LIES.”
Reporters were physically turned away at the gates. One had her badge disabled mid-shift.
The response wasn’t fear. It was solidarity. CBS, NBC, ABC, and even Fox News — Trump’s own favored network — refused to fill CNN’s pool slot. No replacement crew. No coverage. Trump showed up to the UN General Assembly with no press pool behind him for the first time in memory. The New York Times and Washington Post withheld their own photos in protest. The AP said it plainly: “No news organization — or person — should be retaliated against by the government over the words they use.”
When a government tries to punish reporters for reporting, and even its allies refuse to go along with it, that’s not partisanship. That’s the last line holding.
Trump says he’s “not worried.” History says he should be.
