Jewish American Activist: From Defending Israel to Defending Palestinians
October 18, 2026“I WAS RAISED TO BELIEVE ALL ARABS WANTED TO KILL ME.”
Jewish activist Nina Jean grew up with that fear. It was the story she was given about her neighbors, and about herself.
Then Palestinians showed her kindness. The people she was taught to fear welcomed her, and the story fell apart. She says that’s when she realized she had been brainwashed.
Think about what that fear is built on. A child taught that an entire people is a threat. A whole region painted as an enemy, so that anything done to them feels like self-defense.
Nina wants one thing understood, in her own words: it shouldn’t take kindness to see this. Even if Palestinians had shown her none, the crimes committed against them would still be wrong. “The character of the victims is irrelevant,” she says. She told the story this way because the interviewer asked what changed her mind about Zionism in her own life.
Her point is that Palestinians don’t have to be kind, or perfect, or likable, to deserve to live free of genocide and land theft. They deserve that anyway.
Her journey is one more reminder that fear is taught, and what’s taught can be unlearned.
