February 24, 2024Orit Strook, Israel’s Minister of Settlements, has stirred controversy with her recent assertion that “”there is no such thing as a Palestinian people.””
In a recent address in the Israeli Knesset laden with implications, Strook outright denies the existence of the Palestinians identity, therefore, claiming, there can’t be a Palestinian state.
Strook’s remarks echo a sentiment often used to delegitimize Palestinian claims to statehood and self-determination. By denying the existence of a distinct Palestinian people, she is effectively trying to erase centuries of history, culture, and identity. But she can’t and she will not succeed.
In fact one of her own prime ministers, Golda Meir, admitted firmly in an historic video “”I am Palestinian””.
