January 2, 2024In the most blatant ACT OF WAR AGAINST LEBANON, less than an hour ago an Israeli drone struck a building in the Beirut suburb of Dhaye killing four people and injuring at lease 11 others.
Hezbollah confirmed that the Israeli strike killed Saleh el-Arouri, 57, Hamas’s deputy leader abroad. The identity of the other three people has not yet been released. The powerful explosion was heard in the Mawad area of Dhaye in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israeli media reported the assassination by drone of the Hamas official. The drone is said to have targeted the Hamas office in Mecharrafiye as well as a car.
Hamas denied that Ossama Hamdan had been killed, while the Islamic Jihad confirmed that its Secretary General, Ziad Nakhalé, was alive and not the target of the attack.
The Israeli strike signals a dangerous escalation in the attacks by the Zionist state against targets in Lebanon. For the past 87 days the majority of strikes have focused on south Lebanon but the attack on the heart of Beirut has elevated the hositlities to a new level.
The timing of the explosion is relevant as it coincides with the eve of the commemoration of the death of Qassem Suleimani, an Iranian military officer who served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, by the U.S. in 2020, he was the commander of the Quds Force, an IRGC division primarily responsible for extraterritorial and clandestine military operations.
Hezbollah had not made an official statement about what retaliatory action it might take.
