At an official jury press conference on May 12, 2026, award-winning screenwriter and jury member Paul Laverty went scorched earth on the American film industry, accusing major studios of cowardice and systematic censorship. <\/p>\n<p>Pointing to the irony of the festival\u2019s official poster\u2014which features Susan Sarandon\u2014Laverty blasted Hollywood for celebrating an actress\u2019s image while simultaneously exiling her and others for their humanitarian principles.<\/p>\n<p>Laverty specifically named Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, and Mark Ruffalo as victims of a modern-day blacklist for their opposition to the \u201cmurder of women and children in Gaza\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The message from Cannes is loud and clear: You can try to freeze their bank accounts and cancel their contracts, but you cannot blacklist the truth.
