\nAt the Belgian EU Council Presidency Conference, a diverse group of members of the civil society interrupted the meeting and called on the Belgian minister for foreign affairs, Hadja Lahbibon, to end Belgian support for Israel.<\/p>\n

The meeting is from November 23, 2023 but deserves to be reshared based on the strong and powerful statements made by the civil society members who:<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 They denounced Belgium\u2019s responsibility for the genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 They condemned the transportation of military material through Belgium\u2019s logistical hubs.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 They insisted on:<\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f an immediate ceasefire<\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f a military embargo against Israel<\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f sanctions<\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f an end to the siege of Gaza.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddf8They quoted: \u201cThe only solution for peace: the end of the occupation!\u201d \ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddf8<\/p>\n

\nI’m disgusted by this. I don’t feel represented by this union anymore. Why are weapons being transported through Belgium to Israel when we know they will be used for war crimes and genocide? Belgium bears responsibility for every life these weapons will take. You do not have a mandate from civil society to continue Belgian or EU complicity in genocide. What is the point of mechanisms against genocide if they are not used? The people in Gaza are calling for their liberation, for their freedom. The freedom that Ukrainians are fighting for. For war crimes, for occupation, illegal settlements, arbitrary arrests, arbitrary killings. Enough is enough. We should be ashamed that we will not demand a ceasefire, a real ceasefire, an end to the genocide. Every 10 minutes a Palestinian child is killed. While we\u2019re in this conference talking about empty words like \u201cstrategy\u201d, six Palestinian children died.
