One single judge stood between the America we know and absolute chaos.<\/p>\n<p>For 158 years, the rule has been simple: if you\u2019re born here, you belong here. Yet, five justices almost threw that legacy in the trash.<\/p>\n<p>Trump fought dirty to slam the door on anyone born to the \u201cwrong\u201d parents, but let\u2019s look at his own family. Melania Trump showed up on a tourist visa, worked as a model, snagged an \u201cEinstein genius visa,\u201d used chain migration to bring her parents in, and moved them all straight into the White House.<\/p>\n<p>While they use the system for themselves, they tried to strip everyday people of their basic rights. Well, he didn&#8217;t get what he wanted this time. The 5 to 4 voting was so close that the door is still wide open. If he selects future appointees and pulls this court to the right, the next try could be the one that wins. Birthright citizenship has been the law for 158 years, and this week it survived by a single vote. The Supreme Court once ruled that black people were not American citizens. The 14th amendment was written to make sure that never happened again, until now. If you&#8217;re born on American soil to the wrong parents, Trump says you shouldn&#8217;t be a citizen. Earlier this year, he signed the order, making it official. But here&#8217;s the hypocrisy. Show up from Slovenia on a tourist visa or work illegally as a model. Somehow get handed an Einstein visa, the kind reserved for Nobel Prize winners. Then sponsor your parents through chain migration and eventually move into the white House. That is exactly how Melania Trump did it. For this president. The rule of law always depends on who you are.
