Nearly a century ago, European nations frantically evacuated their sovereign gold reserves across the Atlantic to protect them from Nazi occupation and secure them in U.S. vaults.<\/p>\n

Today, as Washington Post \/ Bulwark economics editor and MSNow anchor Catherine Rampell (@crampell ) breaks down on The Moment with Katy Tur, European central banks are actively pulling their gold back across the ocean\u2014not to hide from foreign fascists, but to protect their financial reserves from Donald Trump\u2019s erratic, imperial economic warfare.<\/p>\n

France finished pulling its gold out. The Netherlands just moved $11 billion worth from Manhattan to London. Germany \u2014 sitting on $150+ billion in gold in New York \u2014 is being told by its own economists it\u2019s too risky to leave it there.<\/p>\n

Not because of war. Because of Trump. Threatened sanctions over Greenland. A detained foreign president. Unpredictable strikes abroad. Allies watching a superpower they can no longer read \u2014 and deciding their money shouldn\u2019t be within his reach.<\/p>\n

When the countries that once needed America to protect their gold from fascism start protecting their gold from America, that\u2019s not a headline. That\u2019s a verdict.<\/p>\n
