Basketball Australia is close to signing a national deal with Pixellot \u2014 an Israeli company with links to the IDF, already rolling out AI cameras at basketball venues across the country \u2014 to automatically record junior games. Thousands of children could be exposed. No independent oversight required. Just always-on cameras capturing children\u2019s faces, movements, routines, and patterns, uploaded to the cloud.<\/p>\n

A law professor at ANU put it plainly: this isn\u2019t just a photo of a kid playing basketball. It\u2019s a face, a uniform, a venue, a time, a routine \u2014 a data trail. A former police officer says he\u2019s been flooded with terrified parents who had no idea this was happening, warning that these kinds of images are exactly what predators collect and that AI can manipulate them further.<\/p>\n

To be clear: there\u2019s no evidence this specific basketball system is a surveillance tool, or that it\u2019s used by the Israeli military in Gaza. But Pixellot\u2019s founders come out of Israeli intelligence backgrounds, and this is landing amid growing global scrutiny of Israeli-linked AI and surveillance technology more broadly.<\/p>\n

Parents deserve to know exactly who\u2019s collecting their children\u2019s data, and why, before a contract gets quietly signed.<\/p>\n
