John C. Reilly said the thing that shouldn\u2019t need saying out loud: caring about other people isn\u2019t a weakness to be trained out of you. It\u2019s the entire reason civilization works.<\/p>\n

He was responding to Elon Musk\u2019s \u201cempathy exploit\u201d theory \u2014 the idea that Western societies are committing \u201ccivilizational suicide\u201d by caring too much about people outside their own group. Reilly\u2019s answer was simple: \u201cWe\u2019re not an alligator trying to just get the next fish. We\u2019re human beings. We can relate to something that\u2019s not us \u2014 that\u2019s a superpower.\u201d<\/p>\n

Think about what it says when the richest man on Earth is out here arguing that empathy is the bug, not the feature. That caring less is the upgrade.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo unto others\u201d isn\u2019t complicated. It\u2019s just inconvenient for people who\u2019ve built an entire worldview around not having to.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy that we have to argue for these things right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
