Steve Cohen on September 24, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution accuses Trump of a sweeping range of alleged abuses, including abuse of executive power, violations of his constitutional oath, military actions, immigration policies, withholding congressional funds, interference with the press, use of presidential pardons, and alleged personal financial benefit from the presidency. <\/p>\n<p>Trump has already been impeached twice \u2014 in 2019 over Ukraine-related conduct and in 2021 following January 6 \u2014 with the Senate acquitting him both times.<\/p>\n<p>Now, 26 more articles are on the table.<\/p>\n<p>26 allegations.<br \/>\nOne presidency.<br \/>\nAnd a Congress facing the question of how far it is willing to go to check presidential power.<\/p>\n<p>Source: @davidpakmanshow<br \/>\nRep. Just pounded. Pound pound hit with 26 new articles of impeachment. Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen of Tennessee, senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced this just huge impeachment resolution, and it kind of covers the entire second Trump term. We&#8217;ve got the war against Iran without congressional approval, impeachable deploying military forces to American cities, impeachable, defying court orders involving immigration enforcement, impeachable, unlawfully withholding money appropriated by Congress, impeachable. Firing inspectors general. Alleged abuse of pardon power. Retaliation against law firms and universities. Attacks on press freedom. Alleged violations of the Emoluments Clause by personally profiting from the presidency. These are Cohen&#8217;s allegations. Now, of course, filing an article doesn&#8217;t establish that Trump did it. We, though, as people who can look around and identify what is going on out there in the world, we can say, well, he did do that stuff. And this brings us to what I think is the bigger debate happening inside the Democratic Party right now. Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth recently said if Democrats do regain power, they shouldn&#8217;t be impeaching anybody. Let&#8217;s just get back to work. She added I&#8217;m not interested in being in a confrontation with Donald Trump. Now, can I understand some of the political instinct behind that? Yeah, I guess I can. I mean, it is true. People care about and need health care and they need affordable housing. Absolutely. Democrats need to work on all of those things. But there is a kind of weird premise buried in there that impeachment is the opposite of Congress doing its job. Impeachment is literally part of the work assigned to Congress by the Constitution. Article one gives the House the sole power of impeachment. No one else has that power. Now, separately, the Senate has the sole power to conduct the trial and then to decide whether to convict, requiring two thirds of the senators present. These are different constitutional decisions. The House asks, has the president committed conduct that warrants impeachment? The Senate then asks, should the impeached president be convicted? I think this argument about, you know, the Senate will never convict Trump, so why bother? It doesn&#8217;t really, it&#8217;s not responsive to the first question. I know the political reality there is not going to be a transformation of the Senate or of the Republican Party. I get that. But if a future House investigates the allegations against Trump concludes he did do impeachable things, they must impeach. It is the responsibility of the House to determine has the president done something worthy of impeachment? And if the answer is yes, you don&#8217;t make a political calculation.
