Does a story like this change how you view your ballot? Will you be showing up to vote in your next election? Let me know below.

#Democracy #VoterTurnout #KnessetElections #MiddleEastPolitics #EveryVoteCounts #viral #highlights #america #israel #reels #palestine #lebanon #everyonehighlights #news #specialreport

English Script:
Daizy Gedeon: We’re always looking for signs or winds to help us keep the faith as the fight for humanity becomes more challenging and sometimes really daunting. Well, I have a story for you that will put a smile on your face, and I hope it makes you feel that we are winning and everything we are doing is making a difference. And what is more convincing is this story comes straight out of Israel. So stick with me and let me inspire you with facts, not fantasy. What happened in the Israeli elections last week with the Arab Israeli parties nearly doubling their seats in the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, from 10 to 19 seats was nothing less than amazing. It was elevating and historic, and it’s a lesson in why we must all vote when we’re given the opportunity. This year, I was denied the right to vote in the Lebanese parliamentary elections, as were all Lebanese inside and outside Lebanon, and not because we didn’t want to vote. On March 9th, while Israeli bombs were falling all around Beirut and in the middle of the US-Israeli war on Iran. Lebanon’s parliament decided to take a vote and canceled the May elections and postponed them until 2028. It was a gut punch. So when the Israeli elections were called and with the US midterms aligned with them, I prayed and I hoped this would not be delayed like the Lebanese, because the world could not afford Netanyahu and Trump to go unchallenged. So you can imagine my pure delight when, on 27th of October, Palestinian citizens of Israel who’d been told for 78 years that their vote would count for nothing, walked into polling stations in record numbers. Now the most powerful man in Israel, and some might argue the world, Benjamin Netanyahu, can’t form a government on his own. Neither his bloc nor the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot won a majority. Netanyahu screamed blue murder. His party, Likud, claimed the election was stolen by Arab parties. Just like his old mate Donald Trump claimed the 2020 US elections was stolen from him. But Israel’s own Central Elections Committee, the body that runs the vote, says there’s no evidence of that. They didn’t steal a thing. So what actually happened? People just turned up and voted. About 1 in 5 people in Israel are Palestinian citizens. These are the Arabs who never left, who stayed inside Israel’s borders after 1948. This time around, 80% of them voted at last at the last elections in 2022. It was just 53%. And this time, even a bigger share of Arab citizens voted than Jewish Israelis. The two main Arab parties, the Joint List and the United Arab List, which everyone calls Ra’am, went from ten seats to 19 seats and now hold the balance of power in the Knesset. It was historic and it wasn’t only Arabs voting for them. Jewish Israelis voted for these lists too, and Ra’am even put a Jewish former police chief at number two on its list. So what is all that mean? There are 120 seats in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. To govern a party or coalition needs a majority of 61 seats. Anything less is a minority government which only survives if other parties prop it up from outside. Netanyahu’s bloc got 53 seats, down from 64 at the 2022 elections. The opposition, led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, got 48 seats. Unless the two rivals team up Gadi Eisenkot and Netanyahu, this is highly unlikely because Gadi Eisenkot said no, never under any circumstances would he serve with Netanyahu. That means the Arab parties are the kingmakers. They’ve become the kingmakers of Israel. How ironic. Now some people will say they’ll just get shot out. They might. But think about it. Israel’s opposition now has to decide out loud what matters more. Getting rid of Netanyahu or keeping Palestinian citizens out? And even without forming a government, the 67 seats against Netanyahu could pass a law in the Knesset stopping anyone facing criminal charges from being prime minister. Netanyahu is on trial for corruption in Israel. That’s real power. So if you’re in the US, listen up because your vote matters in the midterms more than ever. Until there’s a new government, Netanyahu stays on as caretaker prime minister, which means he can still take Israel and that means America to war, including against Iran. And we’ve all seen how quick Netanyahu and his government reach for war in Gaza, the West Bank, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, wherever. He’s even wanted by the International Criminal Court, the world’s war crimes court over alleged war crimes in Gaza. So on Tuesday, 3rd November, you Americans are voting on more than you think. And what should give you even more motivation to run down to those polls. AIPAC, Washington’s most powerful pro-Israel lobby has been exposed for what it really is a political bully that pours millions into campaigns against any candidate who criticizes Israel. Now, more than 1100 candidates in 41 states are backed by groups trying to get AIPAC money out of politics, not just Democrats. There are Greens and conservative Republicans, too, so there’s a lot to choose from. On 21st October, AIPAC told its members it’s dropping direct endorsements and donations, calling this year one of the most challenging environments in recent memory. Look, I know what you’ll hear. I know what you who vote in green or in depends is a wasted vote. In America’s system, I get it, that’s a real worry. But Israel just showed us when voters stop being taken for granted, the big parties have to pay attention. If you stay home, your vote counts for nothing. So vote for people, Green or not, who actually share your values. And it’s spreading in Britain and Australia. Green parties calling for sanctions on Israel are winning new voters. Australian Greens senator David Shoebridge has been holding the government, and especially the foreign minister, to account for failing to uphold international law and lying to the Australian people about weapons sales to Israel. The whole party has, which brings me back to where I started. Our vote in Lebanon has been put on hold until 2028. So to all Lebanese inside and outside Lebanon, don’t waste these two years. Register. Get organized and when that ballot comes back, be ready to use it the way the Palestinians across the border showed us. They just did it. Finally, we’ve been brainwashed into believing money makes someone invincible and worth listening to. America elected a billionaire. Then watch the richest man in the world Elon Musk throw hundreds of millions of dollars at getting him there. Which doesn’t mean wise or worthy. And it definitely doesn’t mean good. Palestinians in Israel had every reason to give up on voting. They didn’t. They voted for what they believe in. If they can do it, so can you. And if you’re lucky enough to have a vote this week or any time soon, don’t throw it away. Some of us would give anything to use ours. Turn up. Vote with your conscience. Just vote. Please just vote.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Daizy Gedeon (@daizygedeon) ️ *From Underdogs to the Balance of Power* Witnessing the Arab Israeli parties nearly double their seats from…

[19,35,37,33,1
["post-23346","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-daizy-gedeon","category-israel-hamas-war","category-israel-hamas-war-live-updates","category-middle-east-news","category-uncategorized
["GET
