\nIn a poignant display of cartographic evidence, maps showcased during the public hearings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the advisory proceedings on the legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, have laid bare the stark reality of Palestine’s diminishing existence.<\/p>\n

The maps presented vividly depict the gradual erosion of Palestinian land, as Israeli settlements expand and encroach upon Palestinian territories. These maps serve as a powerful testament to the ongoing challenges faced by Palestinians in their struggle for self-determination and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat it clearly shows is that if there is no peace agreement between Palestinians and Israel, more of those green areas, more of that Palestinian land will be eaten up by Jewish settlements, although right now there is a there is a freeze on settlements by Israel because there’s so much international pressure.\u201d Martin Fletcher said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Palestinians say if we don’t have peace soon, we won’t have a Palestine left,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\nKate Snow: Other bit of history to remember. If you look at the map, we have a map that shows historically the areas that used to be Palestine in 1946 and then the U.N. plan there. And then as it shrunk down to basically Gaza and the West Bank right? And then present. So what does that show you, Martin? The area where Palestinians are living, has it grown increasingly smaller?<\/p>\n

Martin Fletcher: Well, absolutely. This is what it’s all about. It’s all about the land and what this map shows you. And I must say, it’s pretty shocking when you present it in this way. Kate Snow: And the Israelis say we have every right to be in all of those areas. <\/p>\n

Martin Fletcher: Well, the Israelis say, look, you know, this is our homeland, too, and we’re Jews. We have the right to live anywhere, same as anywhere else in the world. We should be allowed to live anywhere we like. And that’s hard to argue about, except it’s taking the land of the future Palestinian state, which that’s what the frustration and the violence is all about, for the most part, the occupation of their land.<\/p>\n
