International lawyer Diana Buttu discusses the day-to-day violence that Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are subjected to under Israeli occupation.<\/p>\n

She explains that even before October 7, Israeli forces had killed a record number of Palestinians in 2023, the deadliest year on record. \u2060<\/p>\n

The violence in the West Bank is justly overshadowed by the unparralled atrocities being committed by the IDF in Gaza, but they should not be forgotten.<\/p>\n

\nDiana Buttu: We as Palestinians living on that land have always been made to feel as though we are there by accident. We have a minister of finance who has said that the only reason that Palestinians remain was because Ben-Gurion didn’t finish the job in 1948. But it’s not just the statements, it’s also the actions. Each and every day, Israel carries out a violent act against Palestinians in order to maintain the occupation in the West Bank. It requires violence. To steal land is violent to put up an Israeli checkpoint is violent, to rob children from their houses, to steal them from their houses and put them in jail is violent. To kill Palestinians is obviously violent. Every aspect of the occupation is violent. And if you look at just from January 1 of 2023 until October 6, Israel had killed 248 Palestinians with this day by day violence. Where was the outrage by the international community? Non-existent.
