Critics took to social media accusing former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai of double standards and \u201csilence\u201d over the plight of Palestinian women in Gaza at the opening of their Broadway production debut Suffs this month.<\/p>\n

The musical which focuses on the early 20th-century suffragette movement in the US made its Broadway debut amid fierce criticism of the country\u2019s unwavering support and arming of Israel\u2019s war in Gaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalala co-producing a musical about the American women\u2019s suffrage movement while being silent about the horrific atrocities being committed against women and girls in Gaza & actively collaborating with a vocal champion of Israel,\u201d was a betrayal of Palestinian women and girls posted one user on X. \u201cThe irony has never been more stark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clinton, who ran for president in 2016, has promoted herself as an advocate for feminism and women\u2019s rights. This has prompted many online users to highlight what they say is the \u201c\u201dglaring hypocrisy\u201d\u201d of Clinton\u2019s backing of Israel despite several reports on Israel\u2019s human rights violations against Palestinian women and girls, including sexual abuse.<\/p>\n

Yousafzai, on the other hand, became a household name in the fight for girls\u2019 education after she was shot in 2012 for speaking out against the Pakistani Taliban\u2019s restrictions on girls\u2019 access to education. At 17, she became the youngest-ever Nobel laureate in 2014 for her activism.<\/p>\n

Social media users have also criticised Yousafzai for partnering with \u201cwarmonger\u201d Clinton, who as secretary of state under President Obama oversaw deadly drone strikes that killed hundreds of civilians, including children, in the activist\u2019s native Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalala said drone attacks are fueling terrorism and killing innocents. She\u2019s now partnering with Clinton, who oversaw the drone campaign,\u201d said one user. \u201cShe exposed her double standards and can safely be called a pawn for the imperial powers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malala condemned Israel and reaffirmed her support for Palestinians in Gaza, after this backlash.<\/p>\n
