Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan this week said that Turkey would join in South Africa\u2019s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon completion of the legal text of our work, we will submit the declaration of official intervention before the ICJ with the objective of implementing this political decision,\u201d Fidan said in a joint press conference with Indonesia\u2019s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Ankara.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that with this step, the proceedings at the International Court of Justice will move in the right direction,\u201d Fidan said.<\/p>\n

South Africa filed a case at the ICJ accusing Israel of breaching the Genocide Convention with its war on Gaza.<\/p>\n

Expert analysis by CEO of Foundations for Defense Democracies, Mark Dubowitz, explained that: \u201cSince the October 7 Hamas atrocities, Turkey and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have unceasingly demonized Israel, comparing its leaders to the Nazis and feting Hamas terrorists with red carpet welcomes. So, we shouldn\u2019t be surprised by Turkey\u2019s turn to lawfare in its bid to weaken Israel\u2019s security and question Israel\u2019s right to self-defense. The Biden administration and Congress cannot allow this decision by Turkey\u2019s rulers to go unchallenged.\u201d<\/p>\n
