I sat down with legendary civil and human ritghts advocate, Dr James Zogby, Founder and President of the Arab American Institute, during my recent trip to Washington D.C. to discuss the war on Gaza and what he sees are the main obstacles to ending the hostilities that have left more than 36,000, mostly civilians, dead after eight months of a genocidal war waged by Israel against the Palestinians.<\/p>\n

In this sneak preview to the full interview which will be released next week, I ask Dr Zogby why America, as the \u201cSuperpower\u201d, doesn\u2019t just force Israel to stop. His reponse: \u201cBecause IT CAN\u2019T!\u201d<\/p>\n

Zogby is one of the most respected pro-Palestine lobbyists in D.C. having worked with every US Administration since President Carter in the 1970s, and since October 7th, he has been in constant discussions with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Justice Merrick Garland, over America\u2019s flawed foreign policy .<\/p>\n

Dr Zogby surmises that the Biden Administration\u2019s attitude and response to the war on Gaza: \u201cIs going to be a stain on Israeli history, on American history, and American consciousness. It\u2019s going to take a generation to erase it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nDaizy: Hi, I’m in Washington, D.C., and I have the opportunity to meet with a legend in D.C. and in American civil rights advocacy, Dr. James Zogby, tell us what you think the reality is of what the American administration is trying to achieve with its policies Israel and the Palestinians.
\nJames Zogbi: I don’t think they have a clue where they’re going. They’re wreaking destruction. When you talk to them, they say, oh yes, it’s intolerable. We say, then end it. And they say, well, that’s intolerable, too, because we can’t tell the Israelis to stop. They are now very clearly witnessing that there is going to be a backlash that may very well cost him re-election.
\nDaizy: We’re looking at an institutional mindset towards the Zionist policy of annihilating the Palestinians. How do we change that?
\nJames Zogbi: There is the other side of this story, and that is that there’s very significant change taking place here in America, it’s the same people who demonstrated against the murder of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. The same young people who demonstrated for women’s rights back when Trump was first elected, or who demonstrated against firearms and guns and wanted gun control after the Parkland shooting. This is not about Jews. It’s not about Judaism. It’s about a policy of a government that is racist and deplorable and should be condemned. What’s different now is that the Jewish establishment can’t silence Jewish Voice for Peace, \u201cwhen Israel appears to be its strongest, it’s actually at its weakest\u201d. And I think that’s what we’re seeing right now. We’re winning this debate. This is not going away. Consciousness doesn’t just evaporate, it grows. It is going to be a stain on Israeli history and American history, American consciousness that is going to take a generation to erase it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
