Chilean President Gabriel Boric said on Saturday his country was joining South Africa in its case at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of \u201cgenocide\u201d in the Gaza war.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the National Congress, Boric decried the \u201ccatastrophic humanitarian situation\u201d in Gaza and called for \u201ca firm response from the international community.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cChile will become a party to and support the case that South Africa presented against Israel before the International Court of Justice in The Hague,\u201d Boric said.<\/p>\n

The ICJ is considering South Africa\u2019s case, but in the interim has brought in \u201cpreliminary measures\u201d ordering Israel to do everything it could to prevent acts of genocide during its Gaza invasion.<\/p>\n

The top UN court last month ordered Israel to halt military operations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where displaced Palestinians are seeking safety from Israel\u2019s military offensive.<\/p>\n

There are already more than 35000 dead, a catastrophic humanitarian situation and the infrastructure in Gaza has been practically razed to the ground.
