Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, exposes the living conditions for Gazans.<\/p>\n

\u201cGaza has been decimated. For more than two million Gazans, it is a living hell \u2013 a nightmare from which they cannot wake\u201d<\/p>\n

In a plea for political and financial support from Member States, Lazzarini underscored that the agency was \u201cstaggering under the weight of relentless attacks in Gaza\u201d, after nearly nine months of intense Israeli bombardment and ground operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pressures on the agency today are greater than ever before,\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n

UNRWA plays a vital role in providing care for about 1.5 million refugees in Gaza. Yet, with Israel\u2019s continued genocide and targeting of their shelters, they have been hindered from doing so.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout decisive intervention to resume education, we will condemn an entire generation to poverty and sow the seeds of hatred, resentment, and future conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nPhilippe Lazzarini: Gaza has been decimated. For more than 2 million Gazans, it is a living hell, a nightmare from which they cannot wake. Catastrophic levels of hunger across the Gaza Strip as a result of human action. Children are dying of malnutrition and dehydration when food and clean water wait in trucks. UNRWA has been a driver of human development for Palestinian Refugees since its creation. It has upheld the rights to education and health while providing protection and assistance, in the absence of a full fledged state. By doing so, the agency has been a force for stability across the region and a beacon of hope for Palestinians. Today, however, UNRWA is staggering under the weight of relentless attacks. In 30 years of humanitarian work, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for the protected statue of humanitarian workers, facilities and operations under international law.<\/p>\n
