PALESTINIAN REP ATTACKS EU’S RESPONSE ON GAZA
December 6, 2023Powerful words by a Palestinian representative at the 25th EU-NGO Forum on Human Rights taking place in Brussels this week. She attacks the EU for minimising the war that Israel has waged on the Palestinians in Gaza to a “conflict” in comparison to the emphasis given to Ukraine.
She says: “I wish I could thank you, like my Ukrainian colleague, for the support you have NOT shown for the people of Palestine…you are so brave to talk about other countries and apartheid regimes but when it came to Palestine you called it a conflict. It’s a GENOCIDE. It’s a MASSACRE. You undermine the 20,000 plus killed in Gaza and you doubted the numbers.”

I wish I could say the same as my Ukrainian colleague told you, I wish I could thank you for the support that you have not shown for the people of Palestine, for the people of Gaza. But rather I am here correcting you. You were so brave to talk about other countries and other boys and about other apartheid regimes and calling it what it is. When it came to Palestine, you called it a conflict. It’s a genocide. It’s a massacre. You undermine that 20,000 plus Palestinians killed in Gaza and you doubted the numbers of the Gazan authorities and their deaths. It’s time for the international community to say things as it is. It’s time for the international community to stand on its obligations. And it is time for the EU to call for an immediate ceasefire to stop the genocide in Gaza.
