ARABIC THE LANGUAGE OF MYSTICISM, POETRY, LAW & HUMOR -EDWARD SAID
December 25, 2023Dr Edward Said, was a Palestinian American academic, who lectured on English literature at Columbia University for nearly four decades and was a graduate of Harvard and Princeton universities. He was a political activist, and literary critic who examined literature in light of social and cultural politics and was an outspoken proponent of the political rights of the Palestinian people and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
He was arguably the most powerful political voice for the Palestinian cause for decades up until his death in 2003 and co-authored Yasser Arafat’s address to the United Nations General Assembly in 1974.
I had the great honour of meeting him in New York in 1997 during the premiere of my first film Lebanon…Imprisoned Splendour and discussing with him the overlapping issues confronting both the Lebanese and Palestinians and the dangers Israel presented to both causes. Here in this video, Said shares insights on the beauty and richness of the Arabic language.
