WE MUST AVOID THE WAR EXPANDING INTO LEBANON
January 8, 2024EU vice-president says the war between Israel and Hezbollah MUST be prevented. ”It is imperative to avoid a regional escalation in the Middle East…and absolutely necessary to avoid Lebanon being dragged into a regional conflict.”
Israel has been escalating tensions with Hezbollah across Lebanon’s southern border for more than three months in an attempt to force Hezbollah to invade Israel and create a legitimate reason to launch all out war against Lebanon. Hezbollah has demonstrated incredible restraint despite losing over 100 fighters and Israel causing tremendous damage to Lebanese civilian towns in the south. Scores of civilians have been killed including 4 journalists and media personnel.
Both the EU and U.S. are putting pressure on Israel not to escalate tensions, but it seems the “”loyal”” ally has no intentions of listening to anyone and is carrying on with its own agenda to widen the conflict and inflict as much pain and damage as it can across the region. Its blatant flagration of international law and abuse of the Geneva Convention must be brought to an end.
We hope that Thursday’s hearing at the International Court of Justice will end Israel’s genocide and atrocities against the Palestinian and Lebanese people.

يقول نائب رئيس الاتحاد الأوروبي إنه يجب منع الحرب بين إسرائيل وحزب الله. “من الضروري تجنب التصعيد الإقليمي في الشرق الأوسط… وضروري للغاية لتجنب جر لبنان إلى صراع إقليمي”.
تعمل إسرائيل على تصعيد التوترات مع حزب الله عبر الحدود الجنوبية للبنان منذ أكثر من ثلاثة أشهر في محاولة لإجبار حزب الله على غزو إسرائيل وخلق سبب مشروع لشن حرب شاملة ضد لبنان. لقد أظهر حزب الله قدرًا لا يصدق من ضبط النفس على الرغم من خسارته أكثر من 100 مقاتل وتسبب إسرائيل في أضرار جسيمة للمدن المدنية اللبنانية في الجنوب. وقُتل العشرات من المدنيين، بينهم أربعة صحفيين وإعلاميين.
ويمارس كل من الاتحاد الأوروبي والولايات المتحدة ضغوطًا على إسرائيل حتى لا تتصاعد التوترات، ولكن يبدو أن الحليف “المخلص” ليس لديه أي نية للاستماع إلى أي شخص ويواصل أجندته الخاصة لتوسيع الصراع وإلحاق أكبر قدر من الألم والضرر قدر الإمكان في جميع أنحاء المنطقة. ويجب وضع حد لاعتداءه الصارخ على القانون الدولي وإساءة استخدام اتفاقية “جنيف”.
ونأمل أن تؤدي جلسة محكمة العدل الدولية يوم الخميس إلى إنهاء الإبادة الجماعية والفظائع التي ترتكبها إسرائيل ضد الشعبين الفلسطيني واللبناني.
