Mariana Williamson: If you take racism and homophobia and bigotry and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and xenophobia, you take all that hatred and all that lower level energy and you put it in one field and you give it political expression, that is one of the most dangerous things that can possibly occur on the planet. But it’s also true that when you put mercy and conscience, justice and love and compassion and reverence for life and reverence for the planet and reverence for future generations and honor for our ancestors, and you wrap that up, not only does that also have political force, as was demonstrated by Gandhi, as was demonstrated by Martin Luther King, but the system that doesn’t want it knows that. That’s why they mock it. That’s why they minimize it. That’s why they peripheralize it. Just like with attitudes towards women, we’re not held down because they think we’re weak. The misogynist holds down a woman because they know we’re so strong.
