Katie Polglase: The UN says there are 300,000 people starving in northern Gaza, but they are no longer delivering aid there for the time being and here’s why: The last UN aid truck was hit on February 5th while traveling north. It says they were fired on by the Israeli navy. Satellite imagery taken just 2 hours after the attack shows boats that could only be Israeli naval boats. They are the only ones permitted in these waters and their measurements fit those of IDF ships. Now, the U.N. also says they had agreed this route in advance with the IDF, and we’ve seen emails confirming this. It was meant to go along Al-Rasheed Road up the coast of Gaza. It was part of a convoy of ten and according to an internal UN incident report, it was stationary at an IDF holding point for over an hour when the firing began. Now, experts in international humanitarian law told us this may be considered a war crime, particularly when depriving these areas of food, of aid, is contributing to mass starvation. At a time when many in Gaza are facing imminent famine. The IDF has not responded to CNN’s requests for comment on the strike.
