DELIBERATE TARGETING OF CHILDREN & AID WORKERS
March 9, 2024The protection of civilians & humanitarian workers in conflict is paramount. Yet every day they’re targeted & killed.
This was illustrated by the recent killing of 6-year-old Hind Rajab & 2 @palestineredcrescent paramedics in Gaza who tried to rescue her, says interim Executive Director of Civilians in Conflict @udo.ilo on the stage of @munsecconf.
Ilo was visibly as well as morally challenged by this unforgettable incident that he questioned whether there was any real humanity left asking “How did we get to this point?”
This is powerful and worth a minute of your time.

It is still the loss of Hind and her family, and the paramedics, which broke me and continues to haunt me.
English Script:
I usually allow my six year old daughter to watch television, but for a couple of days now, I wouldn’t let her. And it’s for a very simple reason is because Hind Rajab. The six year old girl that was trapped in the car bomb. You know, we don’t know how she died, whether she straved, whether she was cold. Just the thought of that girl drives me crazy. But what is also painful is the fact that this Yusuf and Ahmed lost their life simply because they wanted to rescue the six year old girl. And then you begin to ask yourself the question, how did we get to this point? When a six year old girl is trapped in a car and she’s telling people, please don’t leave me here, complete me up, and it doesn’t move us. It doesn’t change anything. And the two young men who dared to go save her, paid with their lives.
