David Shoebridge: Did you know the Albanese Government has just given nearly a billion dollars in public funds to one Israeli arms manufacturer, Elbit Systems? That’s the same Elbit systems that’s bragging about the increased profits it’s getting because of Israel’s invasion of Gaza. It’s the same Elbit that is currently using Palestinians literally as test subjects for their new weapons, using the destruction in Gaza as a sales pitch. And it’s a sales pitch that the Albanese Government has bought. To make matters worse, Elbit Tech had to be stripped from the Australian Army just a few short years ago over concerns they were using it to steal Australian Government information. Not exactly what friends do. And this $1 billion deal isn’t a one off. The Albanese Government has provided hundreds of millions of dollars of public funds to Israeli arms manufacturers since coming to power. Make no mistake. Without arms companies like Elbit, the invasion of Gaza would not be possible. And Elbit would not be able to fuel this violence without the Albanese government and others just like it, providing them with the cash. One former Israeli general described these companies as turning blood into money. No country, no government with any conscience should be any part of that. The Albanese government must listen to the public. Must respect international law. Must end the arms trade with Israel. It’s time.
