BREAKING NEWS PALESTINE APPOINTS A NEW PRIME MINISTER
March 15, 2024n what is being seen as a positive and progressive move for the Palestinian Authority, Mohammad Mustafa, a Palestinian economist and former deputy Prime Minister, was appointed the new Palestinian Prime Minister yesterday, by PA leader Mahmoud Abbas.
This comes after the previous PM, Mohammad Shtayyeh, resigned as pressure was mounting on the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) to reform their government.
Mustafa, a US-educated economist and political independent, now faces the task of forming a new government for the PA, which is dominated by the Fatah party, a faction of the PLO, but has limited powers in parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank and lost control of Gaza to Hamas in 2007. He was also assigned the responsibility of leading the relief and rebuilding of the Gaza Strip and reforming the institutions of the Palestinian Authority.
Fatah and Hamas are expected to meet in Moscow this week for talks.
What the Palestinian political parties need to do is follow the lead of the African National Congress, in their decades-long fight with the apartheid state, and that is to unite their political groups and be seen by the world as one force for the Palestinians.
As Nelson Mandela once said: “Alone we are strong but together we are MIGHTY!”
