RUSSIA CONDEMNS U.S. RESOLUTION AS A “HYPOCRITICAL SPECTACLE!”
March 25, 2024Russia, alongside China, vetoed a US-led resolution that called for the “imperative of an immediate and sustained ceasefire” rejecting the resolution, saying that the resolution did NOT contain a call for a ceasefire and that the US was misleading the international community.
Russian UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia added that the sole purpose for the resolution is to “play to the voters, to throw them a bone” in alluding to the upcoming US presidential elections.
He said: ”..we have the typical hypocritical spectacle when wrapped up in a ceasefire. They (US) have been trying to sell something completely different”
Nebenzia also said the resolution doesn’t do enough to pressure Israel and that “the US draft contains and effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah” and “that nothing would prevent Western Jerusalem from continuing their brutal cleansing of the south of the Gaza Strip.”
The proposed US-led resolution was different from previous draft resolutions, which demanded an unconditional ceasefire and which were vetoed by the US.

English Script:
Vassily Nebenzia: Gaza has virtually been wiped from the earth and now the US representative, without blinking, has been asserting that Washington has finally begun to recognize the need for a cease-fire. This sluggish thought process in Washington has cost the lives of 32,000 peaceful Palestinians, two-thirds of whom are women and children. And even now we have observed the typical hypocritical spectacle when wrapped up in a cease-fire. They’ve been trying to sell something completely different, namely a diluted formulation about the definition and determination of the imperative for a cease fire. The American product is exceedingly politicized. The sole purpose of which is to help to play to the voters, to throw them a bone in the form of some kind of a mention of a cease-fire in Gaza and to establish the US’s political ambitions in the region through the establishment of terrorist labels and to ensure the impunity of Israel whose crimes in the draft are not even assessed. I wish to draw attention to the following. The US draft contains an effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah. At the very least, the authors try to make it such that nothing would prevent Western Jerusalem from continuing their brutal cleansing of the south of the Gaza Strip.
