IRAN SAYS NETANYAHU IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE AFTER ISRAELI ATTACK ON IRANIAN EMBASSY
April 2, 2024Israeli warplanes bombed Iran’s embassy in Syria yesterday in a strike that Iran said killed seven of its military advisers, including three senior commanders, marking a major escalation in Israel’s war with its regional adversaries.
Iranian state media says Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi was killed in the attack.
Reuters reporters at the site in the Mezzeh district of Damascus saw emergency workers clambering atop rubble of a destroyed building inside the diplomatic compound, adjacent to the main Iranian embassy building. Emergency vehicles were parked outside. An Iranian flag hung from a pole by the debris.
Videos on social media showed debris and flames in the area following the blast and grey smoke emanating from the location of the explosion.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that #Israel’s actions in attacking the #Iranian embassy in #Damascus were a result of the “successive failures of the Israeli regime in Gaza and the failure to achieve the ambitious goals of the Zionists”.
He said that “Nertanyahu has lost his mental balance” and called for a “serious response” from the international community.
The Iranian ambassador to #Syria told #AlMayadeen that “the attack reflects the reality of the entity that does not recognize any international laws and is ready to commit anything that goes against humanity.”
Meanwhile, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said that #Iran would decide what type of “response and punishment” was necessary against Israel.
It was reported earlier that the Iranian consulate and the ambassador’s residence were targeted.#Syria says an #Israeli airstrike has destroyed parts of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing or wounding everyone inside the building.
