Ahmed Ghoneim: African diamonds help Israel make a killing. Literally, it cuts and resells our precious stones with a big chunk of the profits going to its military. In fact, African diamonds are Israel’s biggest export. We’re talking $10.5 billion worth a year. Funds that could be used to develop Africa rather than destroy Gaza. Let’s take the DR Congo as an example. An Israeli billionaire by the name of Dan Gertler took control of diamond mines in the DRC after bribing the Kabila family in 1997. Those deals reportedly cost the country almost $2 billion, which is more than 50% of the country’s health budget. But it’s not just diamonds. Gertler also controls cobalt and copper mines acquired through dodgy deals and exploitative practices. So dodgy, the US put him on a sanctions list in 2017. Even Satan-yahu hasn’t managed that yet. Gertler still enjoys the benefits of his blood diamonds and reportedly makes around $200,000 a day from the DRC. That is from child labor, sexual exploitation, forced displacement and genocidal war. Talking of which, an estimated $1 billion of Israel’s diamond profits go to fund its military.Some, like Lev Leviev, Israel’s ‘king of diamonds’ in Angola, also fund illegal Israeli settlements. So in short, Africans are looted, exploited and left in poverty while Israel gets richer, using profits made off our diamonds to fund its brutal killing machine and illegal expansion.
