SYDNEY PROTESTERS REMEMBER GAZA’S LOST CHILDREN AS STUDENTS IN MELBOURNE CALL FOR DIVESTMENT
April 11, 2024Australians are ramping up their pressure on their government with protesters in the two main cities continuing with weekly demonstrations and marches against the government’s ongoing support and ties with the fascist, racist, apartheid and genocidal state of Israel.
In Sydney, activists unfurled a massive banner featuring the names of thousands of children who have lost their lives due to Israeli military bombardment of Gaza.
“They have names, they had dreams,” the banner read.
Meanwhile, in Melbourne student at the University of Melbourne gathered and conducted a protest, calling for divestment from weapons companies fuelling the war in Gaza.
“We don’t want blood on our degrees.”
Dana Alshaer, one of the protesters, pointed out that the university has “tens of millions of dollars in partnerships” with companies such as Lockheed Martin and Rosebank Engineering, an Australian-based company that produces components for the F-35 fighter jets currently used by Israel.
Alshaer believes that pro-Palestinian students and staff have been “silenced and censored” by the university to “stifle” their voices for Palestine.
Nabil Ben Hassine, another protester, mentioned that the university has refused to condemn the systematic destruction of universities in Gaza.
