THOUSANDS OF PALESTINIANS BEING TORTURED IN “LEGAL BLACK HOLE”

The Sde Teiman Detention Centre is known for its FLAGRANT inhumane treatment of Palestinians. In a recent letter published in Haaretz by a doctor working at the field hospital within the Centre, he wrote the following.
“Just this week, two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries, which unfortunately is a routine event. The inmates are fed through straws, defecate in diapers, and are held IN constant restraints, which violate medical ethics and the law.”
The Sde Teiman facility was established immediately after the outbreak of the Gaza war to hold “terrorists” involved in October 7 until they could be moved to a regular prison.
At the time, the Knesset approved an amendment to the law on holding detainees that specified the conditions in which they could be held. Since the start of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, most of the Gazans who have been arrested have been sent to Sde Teiman to be investigated for involvement in terrorism.
Those cleared of suspicion are then sent back to Gaza.
“From the first days of the medical facility’s operation until today, I have faced serious ethical dilemmas. More than that, I am writing [this letter] to warn you that the facilities’ operations do not comply with a single section among those dealing with health in the Incarceration of Unlawful Combatants Law,” the doctor added.

Muhamad Shehada: They set up virtual “extermination areas” in Gaza. Any person that crosses that area or happens to be in that area is executed at the spot, or detained and tortured at the Sde Teiman Israeli military base where thousands of Palestinians are being held at that black spot, away from any sort of legal purview without being charged or put on trial. And they are subjected to daily torture in every sense of the word, in the most unimaginable ways possible. They’re being electrocuted, burned with cigarets, urinated upon, spat upon. They have their arms and legs tied at all times. They are forced to squat down and sit blindfolded, tied again, arms and legs for weeks. If they are sleep deprived, if they try to sleep or speak to one another, they get beaten up by soldiers immediately. And we recently saw a report from Israeli doctors last week in Haaretz. Again a doctor, one dissenting doctor wrote a letter to Israeli ministers warning that we’re all complicit in grave violations of the law because Palestinian detainees or even political hostages at this point, they’re mass arrested as a bargaining chip. Therefore, political prisoners or hostages, some of them are routinely “having their legs amputated from wounds of being handcuffed, both arms and legs for weeks and weeks and months.
