HISTORIC VICTORY Columbia College overwhelmingly passes divestment referendum
April 23, 2024In an HISTORIC OUTCOME earlier today, Columbia University undergraduates overwhelmingly voted to DIVEST from Israel!!!
The victory sent a LOUD and CLEAR message to Israel, the American Administration and all groups, parties, organizations, institutions and nations that Israel WAR of GENOCIDE against the Palestinians has destroyed ALL CREDIBILITY in the Zionist state and all those who support its actions.
Columbia Elections Board hours ago announced that Columbia College has passed a divestment referendum by a large margin. The referendum, first proposed by Columbia University Apartheid Divest on March 3, asked whether the University should divest financially from Israel, cancel the Tel Aviv Global Center, and end Columbia’s dual degree program with Tel Aviv University.
The first question passed with 76.55 percent of voters in favor, while the latter two garnered 68.36 and 65.62 percent support from voters, respectively. The election had 40.26 percent voter participation, with 2,013 students voting, which passed the minimum 30 percent voter participation threshold required by the Columbia College Student Council constitution.
The vote came as thousands of Columbia Uni teachers and administrators staged a mass WALK OUT in solidarity with the pro-Palestine, anti-genocide movement.
In a speech given by Christopher Brown, a professor of history, during the walk out, he said that “”the university and president Minouche Shafik made a mistake calling in NYPD to arrest pro-Palestinian protestors last week, and defended the rights of the students to protest.
This is a powerful reminder that America’s finest citizens are NOT represented by their genocide enabling government or the establishment

English Script:
Christopher Brown: Good afternoon.
Protesters: Good afternoon.
Christopher Brown: I’m Christopher Brown, professor in the history department. This is the first time I’ve ever held a microphone at a protest of very kind, and I’m not sure that’s something to take pride in or not. But I say it, because this is not typical for me. I’m here because I’m so concerned about what has happened to this university, with where we are now and with where we are going. Thursday, April 18, 2024. Will be remembered as a shameful day in Colombia’s history.
Protesters: Shame
Christopher Brown: The president’s decision to send riot police to pick up peaceful protesters on our campus was unprecedented, unjustified, disproportionate, divisive and dangerous.
Protesters: Shame on her.
Christopher Brown: We are fortunate. We don’t know how fortunate we are. We are fortunate that no one was hurt.
Protesters: Yes.
